General
Publications of the Institute of Geophysics, Polish Academy of Sciences has been published since 1962, initially (until 1970) as Materiały i Prace Instytutu Geofizyki PAN. It is now basically an electronic publication, although some issues may be printed too. The subject series are the following:
A – Physics of the Earth's Interior
B – Seismology
C – Geomagnetism
D – Physics of the Atmosphere
E – Hydrology (formerly Water Resources)
P – Polar Research (since 2017)
M – Miscellanea
In 2017, a subtitle “Geophysical Data Bases, Processing and Instrumentation” was added to underline the fact that the publication became mainly focused on experimental results from the Institute of Geophysics PAS, but contributions from other scientific institutions are also highly welcome.
In 2017, after 55 years of being the Editor-in-Chief, Professor Roman Teisseyre resigned from this position, but agreed to support us further as the Honorary Editor. We are very grateful to this Outstanding Scientist for creating and managing this journal for so many years.
The position of the Editor-in-Chief has been taken over by Dr. Marek Kubicki. The list of Associate Editors and Advisory Board members is in the tab Editorial Board.
Aims and scope
Our objective is to publish innovative research in various, currently vital aspects of geophysical phenomena and climate change. The materials may be presented as individual publications or collections of papers (contributed volumes or special issues). Some papers are published “online first”, being later attributed to a specific issue.
The main types of contributions
- Measurement data series: research goals, the measuring equipment used, conditions of measurement.
- Databases: structure, format, licenses.
- Measurement techniques and methods, instrument calibration procedures, good measuring practices.
- Original manuals and descriptions.
- Geophysical data signal processing, extracting the signal from the noise, visualization of measurement results, algorithms, software scripts for these applications.
- Possible implementation of own research results.
- Reports from completed projects, research tasks and dissertations.
- Conference materials (proceedings, extended abstracts).
Datasets and measurement results
We provide citable publication of valuable datasets and measurement results that may not be well-suited for traditional research journals. Our peer-review evaluates merits, quality and completeness of each publication. This will enable the data to be more widely available and properly cited.
Call for papers
If you have any materials in the journal's scope that are worth publishing, please submit a proposal. This call is addressed to a broad audience, not only to people associated with the Institute of Geophysics PAS. Please fill-in our publication proposal form ( Publication_Proposal_Form.doc ) and return it to us.
