Mechanizm Ognisk Wstrząsów Górniczych / The Mechanism of Seismic Events Induced by Mining

This is a Polish translation of the review prepared as an invited paper to lead Session 1 of the Second International Symposium on Rockbursts and Seismicity in Mines, held from June 8 to June 10, 1988, at the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, USA. An English version is being published in USA in the Symposium Proceedings. The review attempts to synthesize methods and results of recent studies on the source mechanism of seismic events induced by mining and relevant microearthquakes of volcanic and tectonic origin.
The following topics are discussed: principal types of mine tremors, double-couple and non-double-couple focal mechanisms, seismic moment tensor, seismic source modeling, seismic spectra and source parameters, scaling relations, and attenuation and scattering effects. Special attention is paid to practical aspects of mine-induced seismicity studies, adopted from relevant studies of natural seismicity. The broad range of topics prevents presentation of a complete list of all relevant works, though over one hundred and sixty references are cited.
